The purpose of a conclusion is to 1) reflect on the major points of the essay without renaming them or adding new information; 2) provide a finished feeling to the essay; and 3) leave the reader thinking about the writer’s ideas and even wanting to find and read more by the writer. It should leave the reader understanding the purpose and importance of the topic or position presented by the writer.
